The First Hypnosis Induction – Becoming a Hypnotist

in Hypnosis Lessons

For anyone who is starting out on their journey to learning hypnosis and how to hypnotize will inevitably be faced with their first hypnosis induction, the first time they attempt to bring someone into trance, the first attempt at hypnotizing someone. Such a person is then faced with so many questions, doubts and thoughts that deter him from his goal of being a hypnotist, I know, because I was once there myself.

What If I fail?

This is one of the most common questions for the first timer, and one of my first questions as well. I want to be a hypnotist, I want to hypnotize people, but… What If I Fail?

If you fail… So what?

Sorry if that does sound a bit rude, but truthfully, what is wrong with failing?
In my humble opinion, failing makes you a better hypnotist, you learn new things, you refine and redefine your beliefs.

Like the famous story about Thomas Edison on inventing the Light Bulb, After failing about a thousand times, he was asked why is he still endeavoring? He replied saying: “I have not failed a thousand times, I have successfully found a thousand ways of how not to make a light bulb”.

There is no Failure, There is only Feedback

Tips for Success

  • Do not Fail – Thinking and worrying about failure assists in your failing process, think of Success
  • Focus on what you want to Achieve.
  • If you do fail, Learn, Improve, and Improvise.

But I am not Confident…

As you would know that this is one of the fundamental problems in a beginners hypnotic career. they lack confidence, the subject sees this either plainly or on a subconscious level, this causes barriers that causes the session to apparently be a failure.

Lack of confidence is creating from doubt of success, simply because they have not done it before.

Tips for Confidence

  • Knowledge is Power, Know what you are doing.
  • Practice Practice Practice, Hypnotize your pillows or your breakfast, have a clear vision when faced with a real person.
  • Intent Intent Expectation. You must have a Clear Intent of what you wish to accomplish and focus directly on that, believe you are going to accomplish and so will the subject, your intent will meet their expectation, result is success.

There is no magic Confidence Formula as effective as actually doing it, and that itself is priceless!

I was where you are…

Every Hypnotist had their first Induction, Every Induction is just as the First, Every person is an Individual, Every Subject is Different, Ever Situation Unique.

I was once sitting and worrying about my first induction, asking questions, procrastinating, fumbling about and accomplishing nothing. Until:

The best advice I received was: “Nike: Just Do IT!”

And that same Advice I give to you, it still applies, it still is the BEST advice.

It took me Three full and long months before I even decided to do my first Hypnosis Induction attempt, once I did it, I was an Amateur, still new, but that first attempt was the best thing I ever did.

Hypnotizing my Science and Mathematics Tutor

One day during Science tuition at my Tutors home, we were hacking away at possible examination examples for my mid year controlled tests, and one hour through tuition we decide to take a break as myself and the other students we getting agitated with Newtons Laws.

In regular conversation I mentioned to my really fun tutor that I was interested in hypnosis and was learning it, at that time it was all I even Spoke about.

Being as open and Fun as he was, he suggested that I should hypnotize him, especially since He had never experienced it before and was really liberal and open minded, not to mention smart.

So I sat Him down on a sofa, amongst his dog barking and teenage interruptions in the background I performed every induction I knew On him, getting him into trance with most of them.

My Famous First Induction:

When I first did this I published it at HypnoThoughts.com for Advice and got help from the likes of John Cerbone, Paula Nongard and even Reg Blackwood, view the discussions here.

I think for me it’s not so much the prospect of failing which deters me from trying, it’s the feeling that I won’t have an intricate enough patter. The problem is that i know so much of how to weave in commands and ways to use tonality and the use of touch and rapport etc. that i’m afraid i might not use them all to achieve the best effect. Practicing on my pillows might help with this one.. i’m a perfectionist so i want to have my induction as dense with commands and rapport builders etc. as possible. Anyone else share this feeling?

thank you so much ! I am struggling with confidence when deep down I can do this and have already done good inductions..I give my first public speaking to Rotary club in 2 weeks. I know I have to quit overthinking and let my natural ability to connect with people ( i have been a psych RN for 25 yrs) take over! i like your post

I used to share the same feeling, so much so that it integrates into your subconscious and you will begin to notice that such affects come into your life in everyday interactions and when you have to use hypnosis it comes ever so naturally…

the main idea is to trust yourself because it knows best for the moment, go with it… your pillow will only get you so far, people will get you the rest of the way and you will only learn when the people help…

Hey.. thanks for all the info. I’m really interested in being able to hypnotize someone (more so, cuz it’s cool ;D ).

    I had a few questions-
1.If I start practicing instant induction from today, how long would it take me to do my first successful induction? I know the answers would vary, but just an approx.? According to a psychologist, my IQ would be around 120-130.2.I have a sister and she’d be very eager to help me out. I wanted to practice with her till my first induction. Would trying hypnosis on the same person repeatedly, hamper my success?2.I wanted to know if I have to be a REALLY powerful hypnotist to make someone get over smoking or drinking?
Thanks for all your help :) (I’m 15)
