Before I get started, let me warn you, this is going to completely turn your view on hypnosis upside down and inside out, Ready? Lets go.
Heres my view on hypnosis in 3 words, Hypnosis is NOT Real.
Well… before you go all ‘hurr bur derr der’ about this view on hypnosis, let me expand on this.
Hypnosis IS and is NOT real at the same time, Its real in their minds but thats because you make it real because hypnosis is nothing, you make it something.
Heres what I think happens in a persons mind during the pretalk, induction and suggestions:
You set the connection up between relaxation and hypnosis during the pretalk, so you perform the induction and suddenly they experience extreme relaxation, their mind goes “This is so relaxing! wait… He/She told me that hypnosis is extreme relaxation… I’m in trance… I am Hypnotized!… everything he/she said that would happen so far has happened! oh my gosh! he just said I’m stuck to my chair **** I’m going to be stuck!” so they ‘wake up’… and they are stuck! so if you read that again, you realize that they convinced themselves that they were hypnotized so as you can see, hypnosis isn’t real but is real at the same time so what I’m trying to say is, you are pretty much playing a trick on their mind, your probably disliking this faster than that funny status you liked on facebook last night but I want you to think about this, the more you think about it, the more it will begin to make sense.
So this was short and sweet and totally blew away your theory on hypnosis, right?
